How does microneedling work?

How to use the Dr. Pen M8:
Important: Microneedling cartridges must be sterilized before each use to ensure the treatment is safe and hygienic. It is essential to follow these steps carefully to ensure that the microneedling cartridges are properly sterilized. Here are the steps to sterilize microneedling cartridges:
- First, ensure that you have all the necessary equipment for sterilization; gloves, isopropyl alcohol solution (70% or above) and a clean container to hold the solution.
- Put on your gloves to avoid contaminating the cartridges during the sterilization process.
- Check on your cartridge; ensure the needles are in perfect condition (i.e. not bending) and remove any debris.
- Pour enough alcohol solution into the container and dip the cartridge needle into a sterilization container, then soak for a couple of minutes.
- If you have alcohol solution in a spray model, you can spray it towards the needle head of the cartridge.
- Once the sterilization is complete, allow the cartridge to air dry before using it.
- Finally, your cartridge is ready for use.

This is going to be very thorough as I was looking for this kind of a review before buying!
I hope this helps someone.
First off, when buying a cosmetic/medical device like this, I think it is extremely important for companies to mention whether or not their products are approved/certified in the country in which they are selling the products. So tick there for this company. The only down side to this I would say – it would be extremely helpful if you added what kind of needles are used (material/grade/diameter). I did ask about this, however I was not given an answer, so had to do a lot of research myself which left me with a few different answers. Having this available would have put my mind more at ease when purchasing.
Another key factor is it is Australian owned and operated – another tick for trust in regulation/safety and product quality. To anyone reading this – don’t buy products like this from ebay, aliexpress etc, make sure its a reputable site. (you never know who’s selling what on those sites)
It would also be good to state rpm for each speed setting. (I prefer the highest setting as it reduces pain, speeds up the process and prevents drag.
Another key factor I think, is giving some background as to where its made and how. (we all love knowing where our things come from and how they are made, especially with stuff like this!) This also was a question I couldn’t find an answer to.
When I received the product I inspected to see where it was made and tried to find mode info on the design/build process however also didn’t see anywhere on the packaging so this could be something to add.
Also noticed a “AU” sticker added to the box which was a bit weird, as you’d think this would be in the box design not added on, wasn’t the best look, and did make me worry a little. Usually genuine/upgraded or maintained products will not have stickers on them..
The rest of the packaging was very clean and nice. Plain and simple. The pen comes in a little bag shaped like a pen, this would have been nicer if it covered the tip as well however, to ensure cleanliness and security of the whole pen.
You receive 10 (36 needle cartridges) which I ordered separately, and 2 (16 needle cartridges) which are Disposable Sterile EO Gas, Non-Pyrogen needles.
I charged the pen for about 1.5 to 2 hours until it showed a green light. Before doing this treatment I had just done laser hair removal so decided to wait about a week before doing this. (For anything more evasive, I would have waited longer before doing this)
I used a numbing cream on my face, however I did go down my neck a little bit with the pen, where there was no numbness and didn’t feel much pain at all, so next time I might give it a go without. I think maybe the more needles and higher speed really helps with reducing pain. The pen depth is great and easy to adjust too. (just be careful when touching serum bottles/face/pen. Make sure all are sanitised and you’re not touching other stuff. Keep everything super super clean.
I would suggest not using this on areas with any congestion. I did have a spot on my chin which had been congested for a few days, and going over it with the pen definitely caused some irritation there, however it has slowly peeled and is subsiding. The rest of my face felt fine and is slowly beginning to peel.
I will say buying some isopropyl alcohol and making sure your working area/face/mirror/products etc are clean is a must. Also using gloves is important too. After the procedure also keep hands clean, don’t touch your face much and stay out of heat/steam
I used the clearskin hyaluronic acid serum to perform this treatment (45 dollars from priceline) as it is a mix of high and low molecular weight and has the least amount of ingredients (only three with the first two being water and hyaluronic acid and third being a safe binding agent). Was super easy to use however I did lose a fair bit of product into the cartridge, but that’s the price you pay I guess. Better to use a good quality serum than not.
After the procedure was complete I added nothing to my face and did nothing to my face besides wash off the excess serum. (Make sure you’re doing this on a Friday evening after work!) you will need to stay out of the sun for the first 48 hours.
The following day I used my LED mask on red (cleaned and sanitised it and my face before using it) and stuck to washing and moisturising my face with vC and nothing else. After 48 hours I went back to normal routine except avoided any acids/Exfoliants. (After 10 days I will go back to those)
Side note – I wanted to purchase the mask from this site too, however I was not given enough information at all about it, and the person I spoke to didn’t seem too educated on the product itself.. I was just given the same information that was provided on the page. It would have been great to know what kind of LED lights are used, the joules produced etc. I…
